I am always moved when i meet people who love Greece as much as we 'Greeks' do.... and even more important, honor her with their work. The young Αmerican artist Paige Moore, whom i met completely 'by chance' is one of these people. When she handed me her card, i saw one of the most expressive illustrations of Athena ever.
Paige came to Greece from faraway Texas, where she studied interior decoration and illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design, after a series of 'coincidences', and has been living in Athens for the past three years. "I was charmed by Greece, and Athens in particular" she told me. "I had been dreaming of living in Greece since i was a child, and finally events turned out in a way that made this dream possible'.
She divides her time between working as a tour coordinator, writing as a local expert for the well known travel website Nileguide, and her art. 'I always try to help visitors to Athens discover the magic, the real character of this historically rich city, so that each person can find what they like and are interested in'.
Paige tells stories with her art. Elaborate imaginary beings, detailed and intricate illustrations which transport the viewer to an enchanted world. Her work, which is mainly in graphite and sometimes in ink, expresses a deep and genuine quest in the subconscious, the dreamworld, the metaphysical dimension.
Greek mythology has been a source of inspiration for her work, and after researching the subject 'i feel the Olympian gods were born from the collective unconscious. Living in Athens i realized that this city still lives with her history actively'.
What are her future plans? 'I am designing a collection with clothes with illustrations of the Greek gods, seen in a new, refreshed way. I am also planning to organize some events with musicians from Texas, and would like to work together with other artists in a workshop, because i think artists work better together'.
